Title: Vandal in victory, vandal in defeat / Rollin Kirby.
Creator(s): Kirby, Rollin, 1875-1952, artist
Date Created/Published: [ca. 1918]
Summary: World War I cartoon shows a hulking German soldier carrying a burning torch and carrying a bag labeled 'Loot,' looking fearfully over his shoulder toward a burning town. The Germans were accused of wantonly destroying property both during the war and as they retreated at the end. Although the war caused widespread destruction, the cause was primarily the result of more powerful weapons and the relative stagnation of armies over wide fronts.
