Summary: The 'Bonus Expeditionary Force,' veterans of World War I, marching on Washington. Encampment on Anacostia flats, tent homes and makeshift shelters; U.S. Army troops receiving orders from Generals MacArthur and Eisenhower to march on the veterans. Includes marchers inside the Capitol; demonstrations; Communist contingents; families accompanying marchers; boxcars carrying veterans arriving in Washington; donated food and soap; bathing, laundry, and cooking activities; the Salvation Army library and recreational activities; fingerprinting of marchers; issuing of railroad tickets to marchers for passage home; Congressman Wright Patman, sponsor of the Bonus Bill, speaking to marchers; funeral procession for Congressman Eslick of Tennessee, who dropped dead on the floor of the House while delivering a plea for support for the Bonus Bill. Also, includes the 'Hunger Army' march on Washington, December 1931; the Scottsboro boys' Supreme Court hearing, May 31, 1932; and Memorial Day services at Catholic University stadium, May 30, 1932.
