Summary: Presentation page for the WPA Federal Art Project calendar for 1939. The calendar was presented to members of congress and the current administration as a 1939 New Year's greeting. Opponents of the Project claimed that the calendar was a misuse of taxpayer money, so what was intended to generate goodwill turned into a minor controversy.
Notes:
Included on the caption are the names of the national and regional directors of the Federal Art Project, Holger Cahill and Audrey McMahon, respectively, the head of the poster division, Richard Floethe, as well as the administrator of the Works Progress Administration, Col. Frank C. Harrington.
