Summary: Includes flood waters and recovery efforts in parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Missouri. Many photographs show crevasses in broken levees; construction of new levees; inundated towns; disaster victims and their household goods on the levees; Red Cross rescue operations; temporary tent cities on the levee; silt and earth piled up in buildings as water recedes.
Notes:
Photographs originally presented in two albums which were disbound by the Library for preservation purposes in 2001. Original album covers bearing titles in gold lettering were retained for reference purposes. They are filed under call number (LOT 3375) in the P&P Supplemental Archives filing series.
Images are mounted on 11 x 14 in. album pages made of black construction paper.
Captions accompany many of the photographs.
Many photographs copyrighted in 1927 by Ewing, Inc. Some images, reproduced as photomechanical prints, are credited to various commercial photographers and the U.S. Army Air Corps.
