Summary: Photographs show formal portraits of babies and small children, many of whom were named for President Benjamin Harrison and presented to the president for this reason. Many portraits of twins and triplets, including one C. M. Bell portrait of the triplets of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Brennan, 1818 L St. NW, Washington, D.C. Includes one portrait of Henry Irving. Also a few portraits of adults; views of the Dolsen homestead; Tecumseh Park; the battlefield at Thames, Ontario; and the pipe of peace smoked after the battle of Tippecanoe.
Notes: Includes the following formats: albumen carte-de-visite, cabinet card, and gelatin silver prints. Tintypes and silhouettes.
The Manuscript Division holds the papers of U.S. president and army officer Benjamin Harrison. The correspondence, notebooks, speeches, scrapbooks, and memorabilia span the years 1787-1938, number 69,600 items, and are accompanied by a finding aid. The papers include material related to the Civil War, Harrison's presidency, Indiana politics, and the Venezuela boundary dispute. They were acquired through gift and purchase, 1901-1960. The photographs were transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division.
