Summary: Cartoon shows Senator John Sharp Williams of Mississippi charging Senator Robert La Follette of Wisconsin with making a disloyal speech, saying, 'It is an everlasting LIE ....' The shadowy figure of Liberty stares accusingly at La Follette. La Follette and his supporters (called by Wilson, 'a little group of willful men') opposed American entry into World War I. Attempts were made by the Senate to expel the Senator after he made a speech in St. Paul in September 1917, criticizing Wilson's actions which, he said, led to war.
