The flag of our union,Union Soldier,American Flag,c1861,Currier & Ives,Photo

Title: The flag of our union
Creator(s): Currier & Ives.,
Date Created/Published: New York : Published by Currier & Ives, c1861.
Summary: A dramatic Unionist print in much the same mold as 'The Union Volunteer' (no. 1861-14). Here a young, mustachioed Union soldier is shown in three-quarter length, facing left while holding an American flag over his right shoulder and raising a saber above his head. This and similar prints were evidently designed to ride the initial crest of militant patriotism in the North after the outbreak of the Civil War.
Notes:
The Library's impression of 'The Flag of Our Union' was deposited for copyright by Currier & Ives on June 13, 1861, and bears a later, November 15, State Department stamp.
