Summary: Political cartoon shows Tammany Hall boss John Kelly, holding on to the trunk of a tree (labeled 'Tammany') with one hand and extending a frail branch (labeled 'Support') to a young woman (labeled 'Democr[ats]') in a river (labeled 'N.Y. Elections'), about to go over a waterfall (labeled 'Defeat'). John Kelly revived the fortunes of the New York City Democratic organization known as Tammany Hall after it was almost destroyed by the scandals surrounding it's former boss, William Tweed. Kelly's effectiveness was marred, however, by his long feuds with other Democratic leaders which led in some cases to the defeat of Democratic candidates.
