Title: The square of Kavalla holds a mixed crowd of humanity - Greeks, Turks, Vlacks and Jews In Kavalla there were formerly nearly 16,000 workmen but when the Bulgarians took the town they treated the Greeks with such cruelty - stripping the town and giving flour only to the Turks - that when the Greeks reoccupied the place there were only 1,000, the rest having died of starvation or being held in Bulgaria as hostages.
