Summary: Drawing shows Mount Shasta in California, as seen across the sparsely populated Shasta Valley from Long Gulch Mountain to the south. Jenks purchased a mining claim on Long Gulch in 1859. On February 1, 1860 he sent his diary to his sister Maria in Pawtucket for safe-keeping along with illustrations of his journey.
