Written on a separate piece of white lined paper: The Shenandoah valley from Maryland Heights. Massanutten Mts. Luray Valley. Shenandoah Valley. 'Powers fort valley.' North Mt. range, to the left the rugged heights of the Blue Ridge, with Thorton's Chester and Ashby's Gaps. In the extreme distance, about the center, is Mt. Jackson, Battle ground of Strasburg, Fishers hill, Cedar Creek etc. Martinsburg and Bunker hill. Charleston, Winchester, Berryville, Kernstown, Newtown, Middletown, Strasbourg and Front Royal. Shenandoah river. Loudon. Bolivar hights. The Winchester pike. Harpers Ferry, and the Potomac river. Bolivar hights [sic.] is where Gen. Miles placed his troops when Jackson occupying the Loudon and Maryland heights compelled his surrender.
