Title: The royal Hercules destroying the dragon python
Date Created/Published: [England] : Pubd. as the Act directs, April 24, 1784 by Hedges under the Royl Exchange, Cornhill, 1784 April 24.
Summary: Print shows George III as Hercules gripping three Whigs on a three-headed Hydra identified as the 'dragon python.' On the left, Charles James Fox utters, 'O! this is my last gasp', on top is Frederick, Lord North, facing forward, with a large N on his forehead, and on the right is Edmund Burke spewing a cap representing 'OEconomy.' This cartoon was published shortly after George III dissolved Parliament and the subsequent election gave the Tories a firm mandate to govern. 'British Political and Social Caricatures, 1655-1832 ... not in the published catalogs of the British Museum,' compiled in 1968 (NC 1470.M4. Vol. 2).
Not found in British Museum Catalogue (BMC) 'British Political and Social Cartoons, 1655-1832, British Museum,' produced by the Library of Congress Photoduplication Service, 1970 (Microfilm LOT 12022). Unpublished checklist provides captions for images.
