Title: The evidence. Washington, D.C. June 11. A returned mail package was placed in evidence at the Senate Post Office Committee hearing today when First Assistant Postmaster General W.W. Howes appeared to defend the charges against the Post Office Department of refusal to deliver mail thru strike picket lines. Howes testified that his department would ask use of not military force to protect 'abnormal' deliveries of food and clothing to workers inside strike bound steel plants. He denied that postal officials had made an agreement with union officials concerning the acceptance of delivery of mail matter. In the photogrpah, left to right: Senator H.
