Photographs originally taken and collected by Riis from 1888-ca. 1890 for his publication titled How the other half lives: studies among the tenements of New York (1890). The copy prints in this LOT were made in the late 1940s or early 1950s from original negatives in the possession of the Museum of the City of New York reportedly for an exhibit at the Federal Security Agency, sometime during the early 1950s.
Most of the prints are mounted on boards measuring 36 x 26 cm. or smaller.
