Biographical note: Mary Church Terrell (1863-1954) was a black leader, author, lecturer, and educator. The Manuscript Division holds her papers, numbering 13,000 items and spanning the years 1851-1962 (chiefly 1886-1954). They are accompanied by a finding aid. The papers include correspondence, diaries, speeches, clippings, and other materials. The photographs were transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division.
