Summary: Cartoons, caricatures, New Year's cards, postcards, and clippings organized in small groupings for display to represent various techniques. Includes images of soldiers; civiliians on the home front; caricatures of major political figures representing the Allied powers (Britain, France, Italy, Russia, United States) and fictional caricatures such as John Bull and the Russian Bear. Includes illustrations and clippings from German language periodicals such as 'Simplizissimus', 'Fliegende Blätter', 'Die Jugend', 'Illustrirte Zeitung' and 'Werkstätten der Zeitung der 10. Armee'; original art work by students in Düsseldorf under the instruction of Hugo Sittel; reproductions of other art work by Ludwig Hohlwein, Oscar Confée and Bruno Bielefeldt. Examples of different types of illustration including lithograph, offset, woodcut and linoleum block printing are also included.
