Summary: Drawing shows people in a park-like setting, walking and standing near the statue of George Washington by Clark Mills, located in Washington, DC. Congress commissioned a statue of Lt. Gen. George Washington (1732-1799) in 1789 although the location of the federal city had not yet been established. Clark Mills completed the statue in 1860, casting it in his foundry less than a mile away from its present location in Foggy Bottom.
