Fred Williams, Peffer, [and] Altgeld'; Tillman holds a pitchfork with flag labeled 'Repudiation' and Altgeld holds a burning torch. The wagon had been harnessed to a mule wearing a halter labeled 'Democracy'; it has broken loose and is gathering speed as it rolls backwards down a hill.
