Miss Josephine Sterling,Speaker of the House John Garner,Enormous Gavel,1932

Title: Speaker Garnes [i.e. Garner] gets guaranteed unbreakable gavel Speaker of the House John N. Garner, who has been experiencing much annoyance due to the breaking of his gavels at inopportune moments, today received a symbol of his office from 'home folks' down at Hidalgo, Texas, on the Mexican border, which they guaranteed not to break. Photo shows pretty Miss Josephine Sterling, of the Speaker's staff, photographed with the new gavel. It weighs almost 400 pounds, incidentally and is made from tough mesquite wood of the Lone Star state.
