Angels bear banners 'O Suffering Jesus,' and 'O Sorrowful Mary.' A key in French, Flemish, and English identifies the buildings.

The Kentucky convent known as 'Little Loretto' was founded in 1812 by the Belgian Catholic priest Charles Nerinckx, who emigrated to the United States in 1804. He returned to Europe twice to raise funds for the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross, and this engraving by Courtois of Malines may have been comissioned as part of a fundraising campaign.
