Summary: Drawing shows a young woman, seated on a stile, a mastiff at her feet, watching a young man in Elizabethan garb reading a sheaf of papers. The drawing is an illustration for William Black's Judith Shakespeare, a novel about William Shakespeare's younger daughter. In the drawing, Judith allows a young stranger to have a preliminary look at the manuscript of her father's play, The Tempest, an imprudent action that will lead to disaster.
