Note on verso: Ousted from government - Washington: Career diplomat John Stewart Service, a prime target of Sen. Joseph McCarthy's Communist-in-Government charges, was fired Dec. 13, because 'there is a reasonable doubt of his loyalty,' according to reports. The review board handling the case said that Services's practice of giving out information appeard 'to have been somewhat loose,' and that it involved a breach of State Department regulations.
