Pelley, President of the American Association of Railroads, declared the plight of the carriers is traceable to public demand for 'something for nothing'. At the same time he assailed government subsidization of competing transportation agencies and rebuked the business men for sponsoring 'many needless and expensive waterway projects' in search of 'cheap transportation,' 5/4/38
