Summary: One of the less outlandish variations on the popular theme of Jefferson Davis's capture by Union soldiers. (See 'The Chas-ed 'Old Lady' of the C.S.A.,' no. 1865-11.) In a wooded setting Davis, wearing a bonnet and dress and wielding a Bowie knife, tries unsuccessfully to flee from three armed Union soldiers. One soldier grabs Davis's arm, while the others point their weapons at him. A woman, possibly Davis's wife, raises her hands in alarm. The quotation at bottom, attributed to Mrs. Davis, reads: 'The men had better not provoke the President as he might hurt some of 'em.'
