The two candidates are shown in bust portraits in carved oval frames, encircled by olive or laurel branches. Grant (left) wears a military uniform. Below the motto 'In Union Is Strength,' an American eagle, with outstretched wings, sits atop a shield adorned with stars and stripes. At bottom of the print are the words of Grant's famous dispatch to Washington during the Spotsylvania campaign of the Civil War, 'We Will Fight It Out on This Line.'
