Title: Housing patch on desert floor, Congress, Arizona
Creator(s): MacLean, Alex S., photographer
Date Created/Published: 2005, printed 2011.
Summary: Photograph shows an aerial view of the community of Congress, Arizona.
Notes:
Caption label from exhibit Down to Earth: Desert Sprawl, Arizona. Sprawl, usually associated with urban areas, now consumes land further away from major cities. The former gold mining town of Congress, Arizona, is located in the desert about sixty miles north of Phoenix. Alex MacLean chose an aerial view to show how a square-shaped town that covers a one-quarter-mile area, surrounded by wide open desert, depends on a network of roads and cars to reach shopping and job sites.
