Charles Pathe was an industrialist and pioneer of silent film who, in partnership with his brothers Emile, Jacques and Theophile founded the French Company Pathe Frères. At first primarily concerned with the sale of phonographs, newly invented by Thomas Edison, Charles Pathe turned, in 1901, to the production of short films. It was then that Houdini, the Handcuff King and Prison Breaker, acted in these scenes in Paris.
