The film was literally a cliffhanger and the Houdini promotion machine did not want viewers to miss the point. Their advertising copy included this passage: 'Revived from his frozen condition in which, according to the story, he had been for one hundred years, he astounds civilization by the ease with which he performs feats heretofore only associated with the super-natural. He scales the sides of buildings as easily as a boy would climb a small tree. He escapes from a securely barred and padded cell of an insane asylum as readily as if he had walked through solid walls. Hurled over a precipice three hundred feet above a yawning chasm, he clings by his fingers to the edge of the cliff, and despite the efforts of the villain to dash him to his death below he by a supreme effort raises himself up on the rock, and in turn throws the villain to the death intended for himself.'
