Congressmen members of the House Merchant Marine Committee spent most of the morning's hearing heckling CIO International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union President Harry Bridges. He opened his statement with the statement that most of his members were citizens, and was promptly told by Chairman Bland to 'stick to the question.' So, Bridges said that the primary question involved was whether or not the men to be employed on the merchant ships of the government were government employees. He said they were not. He said he had taken out first papers as an American citizen, but it still a British subject
