James A. Modesitt was the son of Dr. Charles B. Modesitt who lived in Fort Harrison. Luther G. Hager, an artist, moved into the area in 1836. The print was produced during the 1848 presidential campaign of Zachary Taylor, who had been a captain at the fort. Modesitt and Hager created a 15 x 40 painting of the fort and sold lithographs to support their effort.
