First View of Sable Island after the fog lifted,Nova Scotia,1898

Title: Our first view of Sable Island after the fog lifted
Creator(s): McCurdy, Arthur W. (Arthur Williams), b. 1856, photographer
Date Created/Published: [1898]
Summary: Photograph shows Sable Island, Nova Scotia in the distance.
Notes:
Title from item.
Caption continues: We were anchored at the time in four fathoms of water. During the continuance of the fog, distress whistles were sounded from time to time to notify the life-saving stations that a steamer was off the north shore. Then, to relieve the minds of the inhabitants, the well-known siren whistle of the Harlaw was given. Capt. Farquhar had lived for fourteen years upon the island - and was well-known there - and so was his steamer the Harlaw. We are now anchored off the island awaiting the arrival of a surf-boat from the shore.
