Title: Barrier in Berlin
Date Created/Published: 1961 Sep. 13.
Summary: Photograph shows a group of West Berliners gathered by the wall while others use whatever they can to get a better look over the concrete wall (a woman stands on a small ladder; a man (sits) & a woman (stands) atop the Bernauer Strasse lamppost; a man stands on a pile of bricks).
Notes:
Note on verso: Barrier in Berlin - West Berlin: Separated from friends and relatives by a solid symbol of the iron curtain West Berliners in the French sector use small ladders, lampposts, bricks and anything else to get elevation for a better view across the wall. They waved to friends and relatives on the other side East Berlin at Bernauer Strasse until East German 'VOPOS' ('People's Police') tossed tear gas grenades over the border barrier to break up the gathering.
