Title: Arlington, Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi
Creator(s): Johnston, Frances Benjamin, 1864-1952, photographer
Date Created/Published: 1938.
Notes:
Title from photographer's inventory.
Built by Mrs. Jane White. Two story brick construction with four columns front. Majestic fanlights over carved doorways. Boxwood maze.
Corresponding Carnegie Survey of the Architecture of the South neg. no. 1004. Library has no record of having this neg.
Building/structure dates: 1816.
Related names: Mrs. Hubert Barnum.
From verso: An entranceway of studied elegance. Few Southern entranceways have the symmetry and studied elegance of this one, at Arlington. Against the red brick of the walls, and the marble mosaic of the lower gallery rises the shining whiteness of the woodwork and the glitter of the glass work. The tall archway of the fanlight is particularly notable. Observe the ancient iron hat rack to the left of the door.
