Summary: About half of the photographs depict scenes in Egypt including the archaeological sites of Isna, Philae, ?aqqarah, Karnak, Luxor, Thebes, Qir?asi, Dandara, Medinet Habu, Jizah, and Gebel el Silsila. Photographs also show Alexandria and Cairo including numerous mosques (the Al Ahzar Mosque and ?Amr ibn al-?A? Mosque), the Coptic church of St. Barbara, tombs, fountains, and streets scenes. Also shown are a shadoof and women riding in a cart. Photographs of Lebanon include aerial views of Beirut, and images of the ruins of Ba?labakk. In Jordan are shown the archaeological site of Gerasa, Mt. Nebo, and one image of Petra. Depicted in Palestine (present day Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Strip) are Ramleh, Lydda (Lod), Mt. Carmel, the Great Mosque in Gaza, and the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. The Dome of the Rock, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and other historic sites of Jerusalem are also portrayed. Images in Syria include many interiors of Damascus mansions, the Great Mosque (Jami? al-Umawi al-Kabir), the citadel in Aleppo, ruins in Palymyra (Tadmur), el-Barah (al Bara), el-Kefr, and the Hauran.
