Roger Durham, Director of the US Army Heritage Museum, 2007, identified this view as Fort Putnam on Morris Island. In 2011, Andy House provided further information that places this photo of Battery Chatfield. The soldiers' clean uniforms indicate 'garrison' troops rather than soldiers in the field. Milhollen and Mugridge misidentified this photo as 'Fort McAllister, Ga.,' and it appears with this misidentification in other books and articles.
